Dr. Autherine Juanita Lucy Foster was born October 5,1929, in the town of Shiloh in Marengo County, Alabama where she is unarguably the most famous person to come from that community. Famous, because she dared to act on her belief that all people should be treated the same and afforded every opportunity available to them as a citizen of the United States of America.
If you ever met her, you would never view her as a trailblazer, a history maker, or a fierce champion for the underserved. If you ever got to know her, you could see all of that and more in her engaging and warm smile.
When she talked there was no mistaking that “Juanita” was always a woman on a mission.
